Along with Kedar Massenburg and supergroup Soulquarians tying these two artists together, I’d say they are the two most prolific vocalists/performers in the recent soul and R&B game. I think a lot of people saw them as the male and female counterparts with their first two releases being some of the most acclaimed albums at the time. I heard after D’Angelo released his debut “Brown Sugar,” Massenburg set these two up to do this Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell cover sometime in 1995 and Badu started to go on the rise. I think this is a wonderful cover though.
